Simple Kitchen Updates & an Informal Update on our New Build

If you saw our Instagram Stories last week, you know we are talking about updating this wall in our Kitchen. It is actually one of the largest walls in our home (without any windows) and it has always bothered us that there is no millwork or design feature on this wall.

Ok, so before we start talking about these simple updates we are going to be doing this year… I wanted to give you guys a very informal update on our new build. YES, we are in the initial stages of building our forever home. We had the opportunity to sell our current home (like now), and move into a fifth wheel or travel trailer on our property while we build our home, but ultimately decided we wanted to enjoy one last holiday season in this home. We also have had some amazing opportunities to work with some really wonderful brands and we wanted to work within this home for the remainder of the year to share these brands with you. We will write up a huge post to explain everything in the coming weeks, but in summary we are staying here and will most likely list our home come the first of the year! Ok, back to the kitchen 😉

Real quick, can we all take a moment to acknowledge those bright red leaves?! Here in Florida, those beauties are a rarity!

Here’s our Plan

01. Add Beadboard and Chair Rail :

Our base kitchen cabinets were custom made with beadboard and we would like to tie that in to this wall by adding beadboard and a chair rail.

02. Replace Shelf Brackets & Paint Shelves :

We finally replaced the tabletop on this vintage iron table we picked up a couple of months ago (it was a particle board top) with a white oak top and we love enjoying our coffee here in the mornings. To tie in the white oak tabletop, we are thinking about replacing our decorative metal shelf brackets with simple wooden ones and painting our shelves white.

03. Add Brass Rod :

We will also be adding a brass rod to the bottom shelf for hanging storage. Below you can see our design plan for this space.

And here is a quick BEFORE photo of what the entire wall in our kitchen looks like (you can also see what the tabletop looked like before we replaced it).

At least we can check off the completion of the table! Now, we are wondering if we should replace our dining chairs with simple black ones?

Also, this vintage inspired artwork is so good and frequently asked about! It’s one of those diverse pieces that will fit in anywhere!
