Last Year’s Holiday Mantel & DIY Garland

Last year we worked with World Market to create this holiday look in our home and while prepping our blog posts for this holiday season, we realized we never shared these images on here- fail! Fortunately, all of what you see here is still available this year, so we are finally sharing this look and all of the details!

One of the most asked about questions about this look was our garland, which we made from foraged greenery from our yard- Pine, Juniper, and Cypress.

We clipped the branches the night before and soaked them overnight in buckets of water.

We determined how long we needed the garland to be by holding up a piece of jute twine on our mantel and using the twine as a guide when laying out and building the garland.

We then laid 1 piece of each branch down on top of each other and secured together onto the jute twine with floral wire.

Lay down your branches, overlapping the previous section where you secured with floral wire each time, and repeat until you have spanned the length of your twine.

You will want to lay the branches down in the same direction until you get to the other end of the your garland, where you will want to place your last section or two in the opposite direction so the cut branch sides are hidden.

We hung our garland onto our Cedar beam mantel with 3 nails and reinforced the garland with small black zip ties.

Once the garland was hung and in place, we then took some smaller branches to fill in any spaces that felt empty or missing.

Spray your garland with water using a spray bottle 2-3 times throughout the day to increase the lifespan. It will begin to dry out after about 1-2 weeks, but will still look beautiful! We kept ours up all the way into January.

We incorporated a lot of texture into this look with the basket, throw, garland, faux sheepskin, and chunky knit stockings.

And here are a couple of personal images we haven’t shared before…

Hope you enjoyed this look from last year! You can see our other look from last year, here!

Stay tuned, for more holiday looks coming to the blog this week and be sure to follow along on Instagram for exclusive sneak peeks!
