We listed our home two weeks ago and since then we have gone through two hurricanes… thankfully, there was no damage to our home, but we did have a lot of debris and cleanup. Since listing our home, Justin and I both have come to realize this season of our lives is going to be more hectic than we had anticipated. I told him today, I feel like all we do is tidy and clean all day everyday prepping our home for showings. I am sure my standards are probably set too high, but I want to make sure everything is represented in the best way to showcase how great this home is. Which leads me to why I wanted to write this journal entry… my honest thoughts on listing our home.
After a handful of showings, and with recommendations from a lot of you, we decided to install a Ring camera in our living room mainly to monitor when people would arrive and leave. Since installing the camera, I have to say I have this feeling of knots in my stomach when people walk into our home… it is hard to explain but there is something extremely vulnerable about opening up your home, a sacred place, to people when you aren’t there. I think maybe the possibility of hearing criticism also adds to it all… thankfully there have only been a handful of negatives and mostly positive filled comments- we had to laugh as one woman said it “looked like it was straight out of a Pottery Barn catalog” because if she knew our profession, then that would very much make more sense 😉 One lady also claimed people don’t actually live here… which I wasn’t sure if I took that as a compliment or not because five people do in fact live here if only she could’ve seen the kids sword fighting in the living room just a few hours later.
A kind follower sent us a message saying “Jesus is the best realtor and He has someone perfect in store for your home”, and that is what I am clinging to. Praying for the right person/couple/family to find this special place. Also, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t frustrated that it has been two weeks with no offers, but I know we have had the hurricanes, this is a slower time, and overall, I have to be patient.
Our building process is currently at a stall as we wait for our engineered plans to be completed. We were suppose to receive them last week, but again, the hurricanes have pushed everything back. Once we receive those plans, we will start pulling permits to pour footers, rough-in plumbing, and have the foundation poured. That is about as far as we can get until our home sells and we are able to order our lumber, trusses, roofing, windows… I owe you a more elaborate building update… this week will be fun as we are meeting with a cabinet maker to go over our kitchen plans on Wednesday and I will be sure to take you along and keep you updated!
