While some may argue that August is too early to start thinking about the fall season, this is our first August in this home and after five months of what feels like summer down here in Florida, I am ready for what the next cozy season has to offer.
In today’s post, I am going to share what it means to me to create a fall home and a few simple ways I have started to make the transition.
How to create a cozy fall home:
- Incorporate cozy textures and patterns
- Think warmer tones
- Keep in mind how textures feel- a soft throw or pillow
- A nostalgic scent that beckons the season
- Realistic greenery
- Lighting that creates a warm glow and ambiance
- Layered family photos that tell a story
- A comfortable setting for the family to just be together
As a family, we are constantly kicking out feet up onto the ottoman, especially this time of year, so I kept the styling simple with a new Chess Board (that our kids love to play), a nostalgic fall-scented candle in a glass hurricane vase, matches, and our favorite design books all corralled together on this beautiful hand-woven oval tray.
I also incorporated some new tones and textures with these velvet bolster pillows, this buffalo check pillow and this floral lumbar. I love the softer textures for fall and how cozy/comfortable they are.
The next area I focused on was this vintage desk in our living room- I added some realistic branches in this beautiful textural vase and some new silver frames (that I still need to add photos to).
I also recently added this mirror and the wood-tone is perfect on it! Since we don’t have a mirror over our fireplace, I love having one directly across from the fireplace to reflect the light coming in.
This side table with marble top is also a new addition. I love incorporating black into every room for contrast and this little table was the perfect addition in between our swivel chairs.
I am still waiting on a few final pieces before sharing an entire fall living room reveal, but hopefully these few photos inspire you to start thinking about making small transitions in your home for the next season ahead!
