DIY Leather Catchall Tray

February 20, 2021

Today, we are sharing a fun and simple DIY project! I have made two of these trays now- one for Justin’s nightstand and a catchall for my jewelry and other things. These trays can cost well over $100, but you can easily make them for a lot less!

How To

Watch the video tutorial here.

Step 01: Start by cutting your leather into a square with a straight edge and Xacto Knife. You can make your tray any square size, but we made ours 8×8 inches.

Step 02: Submerge the leather in water for 30 minutes.

Step 03: Remove from the water and lay the leather (smooth side down) over a square form like tupperware or a block.

Step 04: Mold the sides and corners of the leather with your hands by pinching and pressing firmly around your square mold.

Step 05: Let dry overnight around the mold.

Step 06: Once the leather is completely dry, remove from the mold and punch holes in the corners where you will wrap with leather cording.

Step 07: After you have punched holes in the corners, start looping the cording in the corners by starting on the inside of the tray working your way out and around twice and finishing on the inside with a knot.

Step 08: Trim the excess cording and repeat step 07 until all four corners are finished.

Happy weekend, friends!
