Modern Vintage Bathroom Refresh

August 26, 2021

Do you remember what our bathroom looked like previously? The changes that we made weren’t drastic, but the outcome is… crazy to think all this space needed was some fresh paint, a few DIY projects, a little bit of pattern, art, handmade pendant, and some new accessories from Pottery Barn.

The walls use to be painted Light French Gray by Sherwin Williams… in fact, if you search SW Light French Gray, our bathroom is one of the first few images that will pull up. Ultimately, we decided to brighten up the space by painting the walls BM White Dove (which is throughout our home). We also removed the DIY Barnwood Shelf to open up the area above our vanity and replaced that shelf with another DIY shelf!

Another simple change we made was applying Rub’nBuff to our mirrors and light fixtures to bring in some warmth. We used European Gold Rub’nBuff and applied it using an old makeup brush.

We continued the brass by hanging these three brass hooks that look perfectly aged and timeless. See how well they coordinate with our vintage gallery rail on our shelf?

We also added new linens to our bathroom and swapped the grey towels for ivory which really helped the overall feel. Updating your linens is one of the simplest ways to breathe new life into your bathroom!

Another simple but impactful update we did was updating the lighting by replacing our old pendant with this handmade porcelain pendant… it really is the perfect design element that tied this entire space together!

I originally had different plans for this corner wall- I thought I wanted to do a modern corner gallery with figure drawings, but after we hung the cafe curtains and the pendant, I knew I wanted smaller scale art with a little bit color in vintage frames. I decided on these two 5×7 landscape paintings by Hannah Winters and framed them in two vintage frames I found at a local antique store.

Also, did you notice I stained the vanity back to it’s original color to match the other walnut accents in the room? I felt like it was lacking richness before, so last minute (the day before we photographed the bathroom) I decided to stain it and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!

We also added this beautiful stoneware tray and canister that ties in perfectly with our light shades.

…and how perfect are these linen waffle slippers? I love keeping them in here to use!

Incorporating vintage elements like this chair and the brass gallery rail on the shelf adds the perfect amount of character and completes this modern vintage refresh!

Hello! On the bathroom mirrors, did you add the buff to the gold or black mirrors?
