Today, we are starting a new series of sorts – Styling 3 Ways! We want to offer you as much inspiration as possible and today we are kicking off the series with our coffee table! Our coffee table is one area we like to style differently quite often, which you will see in this post, but we always use the same foundational tips when styling.
In this post you will find we have styled our coffee table 3 different ways using dried florals, foraged spring branches from our yard, and also a live plant to add in some color and greenery.
1st Look – Dried Florals in Stone Frog
If you saw this post, you know we have been loving styling with dried florals lately to create a natural and minimal aesthetic. The best thing about dried florals? They will last for as long as you have them!
2nd Look – Foraged Spring Branches in Glass Carafe
We say it often, but make foraging a normal practice when styling a space! There is an abundance of beauty all around us if just take the time to look. For this look, we decided to forage some spring branches and we love that you can see the buds and the beginning of life growing! We also love how these branches added height to our coffee table.
3rd Look – Greenery in Terra Cotta Pot
This is our casual, everyday look and how our coffee table looks right now. We love adding live greenery in a stone or terra cotta pot to bring in a little bit of color.
Now that you have seen our 3 looks, below you will see our foundational styling tips we follow when designing a coffee table.
Styling Tip 1 : Start with a Tray
We like to start by using a tray on our coffee table to corral the essentials – candle, matches, remote… or even to use as a layering tool by placing a vase with florals or potted plant on the tray.
Styling Tip 2 : Stack Your Favorite Coffee Table Books
This may seem like a no brainer, but we like to rotate our coffee table books depending on which books we are finding inspirational at the time. Limit the stacking to two books per stack, and if your coffee table is larger, use 1-3 stacks in different directions so the spines are seen from different angles.
Styling Tip 3 : Layer with Decorative Objects
For these 3 looks, we layered with a candle, matches, snuffer, and stone frog. Layering with decorative objects adds visual interest to your table and will tell a unique story. Think about layering with found objects as well- whether it be collected rocks or shells from your favorite places in a bowl, a vintage vase, handmade pottery, wooden beads or chain… something that is unique to you and adds to your own personal aesthetic.
Styling Tip 4 : Add Life
Possibly the most important styling tip is to bring life to the area you are designing- whether that’s by adding dried florals, fresh florals or greenery, or foraged branches. Scroll up and look at the images above again and imagine what they would look like if they didn’t have these elements- where would your eye be drawn to? Chances are your eye would just float around the image trying to find a place to land. By adding life, you are creating a focal point and the final piece to bring your overall look together.
