Neutral Nursery Reveal

Design — October 16, 2020

It’s nursery reveal day!! We have poured our hearts into every little detail of this space and we are so excited to share it all with you today! Spoiler alert : this is one of our longest blogposts full of detail photos (our favorite), but all sources can be found at the bottom of the post.

Like with any room, rugs can be the foundation piece in any design. We first started by sourcing this beautiful, vintage-inspired, one of a kind rug by Revival Rugs, and designed the nursery around it- from the colors sourced, furniture, natural and textural elements, and hand-made pieces like the mobile, artwork, and play mat. If you missed the Neutral Nursery Design Plan blog post, you can read that here.

This post is sponsored by Revival Rugs. All content and opinions are always our own. Thank you for allowing us to share the brands we love to support.

We kept everything neutral, but with soft and feminine touches by using warmer tones and muted variations of pinks.

We chose this vintage artwork ‘Dancing Sheep’ to be the focal point over her crib- the texture in this piece is so beautiful, it looks just like a real painting! We had it printed on Fine Art Paper and we framed it in a vintage frame.

The DIY wool mobile was something I knew I wanted to make, we have a blogpost coming featuring the tutorial soon, but if you want to watch our Instagram highlight- you can click here.

You can see here how beautiful the tones and colors are in this rug. We love that this handmade rug is one of a kind and vintage-inspired, but is new! It has a great pile to it and is so incredibly soft.

Revival Rugs has many rugs to choose from with similar colorways and patterns, you can view them here. We also have a code for all of our readers to receive 10% off your order- LAINEANDLAYNE10

If you remember, this room use to be our now four year old’s neutral toddler room, you can see what the room use to look like here, but when we found out we were expecting a little girl, we decided to move our two boys into the same room and create this space for her. It is the smallest room in our home, but works perfectly for a nursery.

In this corner, we kept things simple with a neutral canopy, linen bunting, starry lights, a few textural pillows that coordinate with the rug, and a handmade play mat by Thimble & Cloth.

We incorporated some of our favorite nursery books, as well as some vintage books like my Mother’s The Real Mother Goose book. We envision our little babe laying on the play mat staring up at the lights while we read to her…

We really thought about every detail we brought into here, wanting everything to have purpose, function, and meaning…

Her middle names (first name we haven’t announced yet… well, we did, and then we changed it!!) yes she has two middle names, are Hayes Dean. Dean is my Granny’s middle name and I wanted to incorporate a photo of her in this space which you can see hanging here.

We incorporated this peg rail for added storage to hold blankets, throws and even her diaper bag and hung this special handmade pressed flower artwork above it.

I wanted to show you how we are using this IKEA cabinet for storage- we purchased cloth bins to hold her linens, clothes, extra diapers and necessities…

Since she will be sleeping in our bedroom for most of her first year, her changing pad, mini crib, and rocker are all in our bedroom… (that full tour is coming soon) but for now we dressed up her cabinet with some fresh eucalyptus, more vintage art, and balanced the vintage pieces with a modern mirror and lamp.

Here you can see the natural woven seagrass pendant we chose to bring in some warmth to the space.

Choosing fibers for her bedding, like the organic linen crib sheet, organic gauze pillowcase and blanket only add to the overall natural aesthetic and environment we hoped to create in this space.

While some items may be more of investment pieces, we saved on others by purchasing this natural wood crib that was less than $100! Since our ceilings are only 8 ft, we customized the crib by cutting off the legs to make it shorter and fit better in the room.

This heirloom baby blanket was one of our first baby purchases this pregnancy. Our second son has one of these blankets and pillowcases and still sleeps with both! Can’t recommend these products enough!

I know this post was a bit long, but we wanted to make sure we were covering all of the special details we chose for this space! We are so excited to welcome our little girl in December and to watch her grow in this little room! So, what do you think? Do you have any favorite details? We would love to know!
