Backyard Firepit Patio Reveal

Design, Projects — July 27, 2022

So much anticipation to share this space that we have been working on for months now! Last week we shared our design plan for our backyard and today we get to share all of the photos and video with you- we honestly cannot believe it is finished and how different it looks from the last time we shared this space!

This post is sponsored by Pottery Barn. All content and opinions are always our own. Thank you for allowing us to share the brands we love to support.

Our main reason for wanting to redo our backyard space was to make it function better both aesthetically and physically. If you remember how our patio use to look, the irregular stepping stones with the larger river rock were uncomfortable to walk on and the small metal furniture was no longer serving us as a family.

We also wanted to incorporate elevated furniture that was scaled properly for the space- we chose the Indio Wood collection which is FSC® certified, has removable/washable slipcovers, with the perfect storage bench! Not to mention the hassle free firepit that lights so easily without the worry of embers or smoke!

We completed the space by highlighting the warm glow of summer through the string lights and lanterns.

We also updated these posts and whiskey barrels- you can see what they use to look like in this post. We started by removing the old string lights and Jasmine Vine that weren’t growing very well. I stained the barrels in a dark stain and Justin wrapped the 4×4 posts in cedar, and we finished them by staining them in Sherwin Williams Woodscapes Mountain Ash which is the same stain as the posts on our front porch.

We hung these lantern brackets and lanterns from the posts and new string lights with a warmer glow. We planted Limelight Hydrangeas in the barrels covering the soil with pine bark for a finished look.

Would you believe me if I told you all of these candles were battery powered? We usually don’t like flameless/artificial candles, but with the flickering flame, we are 100% sold on these, they even look real in person!

When redoing the patio, we tore everything up and expanded the area by a foot on each side making it a 14×14 size. I chose furniture and accents that would fill the space, and allow for ample seating… we love the two rockers and loveseat and the matching storage bench that doubles as seating.

Our last firepit was wood-burning, and while we do love a good wood-burning fire, it has been so nice to enjoy this propane firepit without the worries of embers or smoke! It also lights so easy and quick!

We chose our favorite fluted planters to balance the side tables on either side of the loveseat.

Oh! and this side table is the matching propane tank cover!

Want to add glow to your outdoor space to carry you into the next cozy season?

Consider adding these three things to your outdoor space…

01 Lighting – think sconces and string lights

02 Lanterns and Candlelight – hanging and stand alone with flameless candles where you don’t have to worry about bugs and the wax melting

03 Firepit – hassle free propane or gas powered that lights at the turn of a key

Love how it looks! Where are the side tables from? The ones linked look a little different

    • Hi Megan! Thank you!! I just updated the link under the sources to the exact side tables! It looks like our sizes are currently unavailable but they have other size options. I would keep an eye out, they should restock 🙂

I love this look! How well does the furniture sit on the pea gravel? Do the rocking chairs rock ok?
