The Boys’ Room Design Board With Free Art

Design — March 15, 2022

Last week we shared that our boy’s room got moved up on the obligatory list of projects we are tackling this year… this is mainly due to the fact that we had to rearrange their room and if I’m being honest, their room has been half painted for about one year now, so it is way overdue getting finished! I haven’t shared their room since we moved both boys into the same room… you can see what this room use to look like here.

Today, we are sharing our plans for their room (our boys are 10 and 5), the sources to everything, and our to-do list!

The To-Do List

PAINT – We have added the beadboard and painted it in Sherwin-Williams Shiitake and the top half of the wall in Sherwin-Williams Pure White, but we haven’t finished painting the rest of the room, so this is the first step. We will be doing a contrast trim in their room by painting all of the trim around the windows, baseboards, and door frames in the Shiitake color and all of the walls will be Pure White.

DIY HEADBOARDS – We will be making two headboards for their bed frames by wrapping plywood in batting and fabric (this is the same thing we did with our headboard in our room). We will be using left over fabric from these curtain panels for the headboards.

STAIN BEDFRAMES – Right now, their bed frames are unfinished pine and I would like to warm them up by staining them with Puritan Pine and then possibly adding my favorite white wax overtop.

PRINT THE ART – All three of these art pieces are FREE from public access online art galleries… I may end up doing an entirely separate post on this, but come to find out, A LOT of the digital art that we have paid for from various print shops is actually free. Anyways, I let the boys choose their art and I love these 3 pieces together.

DIY LAMPSHADE – I am actually undecided if I want to just purchase this lampshade, or attempt a DIY of it.

DIY BOOKSHELF – Justin is going to build them a tall bookcase for added storage and also a corner shelf/desk area.

Update

I have always loved this image with the striped wallpaper, and now we are thinking about adding this wallpaper to the boy’s room… what do you think?
